For this astronomy research lecture series given by Dr Jisun Park from June 15th to July 5th, 2019, Mr. Jun Yue served as a Mandarin-English simultaneous interpreter.
Dr Jisun Park is an assitant professor of earth and space sciences at the City University of New York (CUNY), with research interestes on Geo-cosmo-chemistry, Earth Science, Ar-Ar Age dating for meterorites and Astronomy. Among a number of different universities and research insitutions, she once worked as a resercher at NASA-Johnson Space Center. Dr Park is one of the group of astronomy experts invited onboard Peace Boat’s 101st global voyage.
On Tuesday July 2, 2019, a rare total eclipse completely blocked the Sun in parts of South America and the South Pacific. During the eclipse, Peace Boat was sailing between Rapa Nui and Tahiti. Participants on the 101st Global Voyage had the privilege to witness this unique event first hand from a very particular location. The astronomy research lectures onboard were all centered around the observation of the rare total eclipse.
Dr Park’s six public lectures covered the topics of the Earth, the Moon, the Sun, the Mars, the Solar System, Solar & Lunar Eclipse, Meteorite, Universe Exploration etc.

朴芝鲜博士是纽约城市大学地球与空间科学的助理教授,研究领域包括地球宇宙化学、地球科学、陨石Ar-Ar同位素年份测定、天文学。她曾在许多不同的大学和研究机构任职,其中包括在美国宇航局(NASA)约翰逊航天中心担任研究员。朴博士是和平之船第101次环球航行特邀的天文学专家团队成员之一。
2019年7月2日星期二,罕见的日全食完全挡住了南美部分地区和南太平洋的太阳。在日食期间,和平之船正行驶在拉帕努伊和塔希提岛之间。和平之船第101次全球航行之旅的参与者们,有幸亲身从非常特殊的地方,亲眼目睹了这一独特的天文现象。船上的天文学研究系列讲座都围绕此次罕见的日食观测展开。
